Siena is considered the embodiment of a medieval city. Boasting incredible Gothic art and architecture, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and is described as being a work of art that blends into the surrounding landscape. A short drive away is San Gimignano, the charming town of "the beautiful towers" - in the 12th and 13th centuries there were 72 tower-houses, a symbol of power and wealth. Today, while only 14 towers remain, the town has preserved its feudal appearance offering visitors a truly unique atmosphere.
